Scope Diagnostics
See what the scan tool can’t. A hands-on day with the oscilloscope: test sensors, actuators and networks on real vehicles, read the waveforms, and find the faults code-reading alone misses.
What you'll learn
- Setting up a scope: channels, voltage and time base, triggers and probes
- What good looks like: known-good waveforms for common sensors and actuators
- Testing crank and cam sensors, injectors, ignition and wheel-speed sensors
- Voltage drop and current testing to find wiring and connection faults
- Reading CAN bus signals and spotting network faults
- Capturing intermittent faults
- A logical test plan, so the scope saves time instead of costing it
Before you come
Prerequisites: comfortable with basic electrical theory and multimeter use, with some diagnostic experience.
What to bring: steel-capped boots and workshop clothing. If you have your own scope, bring it, so you learn on the tool you use at work.
